Accurate results in minimum time
With the most up-to-date L80-5000 moisture tester, quick and reliable measuring
of the water vapour permeability of packaging foils and films, complex membranes,
such as those used in hygiene and for surgical products, as well as other water
vapour barriers, becomes routine.
Whether dealing with films or textiles with extremely high or very low water
vapour permeability, the L80-5000 gives accurate and extremely reproducible
values in the minimum time.
A measuring system which has become standard
The instrument operates according to the dynamic measuring method used successfully
for decades which has since become standard. The specimen fixed a self-adhesive
mask is used as a barrier between a space with a saturated atmosphere and the
measuring space with low reletive humidity, The extremely sensitive moisture
sensor on AIO2 substrate is located in the upper measuring chamber.

Thanks to its large, linear dynamic measuring range, a minimal
hysteresis and the extremely short reaction time, this new humidity sensor
is particularly suitable for this application.
An approved operating principle
The upper measuring chamber can be closed for the measuring
procedure with two solenoid valves or be flushed through with dried air.
The measuring principle is amazingly simple.
- Dry the measuring chamber to a defined value and close the valves.
- Increase the humidity in the measuring chamber dependent on the water vapour
permeability of the sample.
- Measure the time required for a small increase in the relative humidity
(rH) as a value defined by two set limits.
-> The more permeable the filem, the shorter the measuring time.
Calibrate ... measure, measure, measure...
Firstly, the instrument is calibrated with a test standard of known water vapour
permeability in defined conditions. the micro-processor calculates a factor
from the resulting time intervals which allows direct evaluation of permeability
in g/m2 per day from the sample measurements. Calibration is
automatically repeated until the results obtained level out within a pre-defined
variation.
Accurate and reliable measuring results
During measuring, the sample fixed in the self-adhesive measuring mask is analysed
under the same conditions as the standard. Time requirement is expressed directly
in g/m2 per day and recorded together with date and time on a printput.

The new L80-5000 is the latest member or the fifth generation of the tried
and approved L80 Series which has been used successfully for decades in many
labs all over the world.
All the elements of the measuring equipment and its connecting calbes, all
the electronics, the printer, the alphanumerical keyboard and the easy-to-read
luminescent display as well as all the electrical connections are inside a compact
casing protected from external interference.
Temperature-controlled measuring

The water vapour permeability of plastics is extremely temperature- dependent.
That is why the L80-5000 can be used at precisely the required measuring
temperatures. For measurements below 30°C, the measuring chamber
can be cooled down to the lower temperatures with a cooling thermostat
which is commercially available.
For faster equilibrium adjustment of hydrophilic materials, the samples
to be measured can be preconditioned outside the instrument
